Plaut’s: The Secret Behind “Goshen’s Most Talked About Store”
How two Small Town Jewish Merchants confronted Hitler’s Killing Machine
For 85 years, Plaut’s store was a prominent fixture on Goshen’s Main Street. Its founder, David Plaut, was a German Jewish immigrant who “made good,” and passed on management of the store to his son, Sidney. This documentary explores the family’s nine-year quest (1937-1946) to sponsor and relocate 28 German Jewish refugees to the U.S. Some of those rescued were family; some were strangers lucky enough to secure a Plaut-sponsored visa.
